希望・自由のシンボル「Birds」。暮らしの場を表す「街」。小平は、その親しみやすいモチーフを「やきもの」で表現している。
小平が造る鳥たちは、羽や尾が大きく優雅、胴体や頭頂が太くお茶目、脚やくちばしが長く可憐にと様々な形をし、飛ぶ、泳ぐ、歩く、立つ、座ると様々な状態である。また、カラフルで明るい色調を基本にしつつ、ダークなトーンも時に出現。ジオラマのような街は、山や川、建物や橋、様々な鳥たちで構成され、時に郵便ポストや自販機なども登場する。
小平の作品は、洗練させないラフなディテールも相まって、一見ではキャッチーでデザイン的な表現に見える。ただ、現代の社会性と美濃焼の伝統を融合させ、陶芸・芸術をダイナミックに揺さぶることを試みている。

“Birds” symbolizes hope and freedom, and “Town” represents a place of living. Kodaira expresses these familiar motifs in his “pottery”.
His “Birds” come in various shapes, from large and graceful wings and tails to playful, thick bodies and heads to long and elegant legs and beaks, and fly, swim, walk, stand, and sit in various states. In addition, while the basic colors are colorful and bright, dark tones also appear. The diorama-like city is made up of mountains, rivers, buildings, bridges, and various birds, and sometimes even post boxes and vending machines appear. His works, coupled with rough details without sophistication, appear at first glance to be catchy, design-oriented expressions. However, he is attempting to fuse modern social issues with the traditions of Mino ware, creating dynamic changes in pottery and art.
